What is an LMIA Work Permit?

A Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) is a confirmation letter from Employment and Social Development Canada that gives the employer permission to hire a temporary worker. A positive LMIA will show that there is a need for a foreign worker to fill the job the employer is offering and no Canadian worker is available for the job. With the positive LMIA, a foreign worker is eligible to apply for a work permit and receive additional points for their permanent residence application. Additionally, they will be able to receive tuition benefits for their child after receiving an LMIA work permit.

The LMIA application is an employer’s application, all obligation requirements and eligibility must be thoroughly checked before proceeding with the application.
