LMIA Work Permits
A Labor Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) is a document issued by Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) / Service Canada and must apply for most Canadian work permits. Before submitting the LMIA application, the employer must post an advertisement, and Job bank must be a resource. LMIA applications for a temporary position have an associated application fee of $1,000 per temporary foreign position applied for. The positive LMIA is provided by Service Canada/ESDC to the employer who will give it to the foreign worker to submit with their employment permit application, which, if granted, is usually issued for one year. Shorter 10-day processing times are available for the most in-demand, highest-paid and shortest-eligible occupations, i.e. skilled occupations in the top 10% of the pay scale and for positions less than 120 days
